Welcome to St. Mary's Elementary School

For over 135 years, St. Mary’s School has had a strong commitment to providing a high quality Catholic education to the students of Sleepy Eye and the surrounding communities. God has blessed us with faithful and dedicated families, parishioners, alumni, students, faculty, and community supporters. Our mission states: “St. Mary’s Catholic School exists to assist the parents in passing on the Catholic faith while providing a high quality education in a safe and positive environment”. As an accredited Catholic school for grades K-12, we strive to live out that mission each day. In addition, we are blessed to offer an excellent preschool program for both 3 and 4 year old children, helping the parents of even our youngest students share their faith.

Inspirational religious instruction, meaningful service projects, daily prayer, weekly Masses, and regular opportunities for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament combine to provide every student with not only the basics of the Catholic faith, but also the ability and challenge to grow in their faith. In addition, sacramental preparation in Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation are incorporated into the religion curriculum and frequent participation in the sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Communion are among our greatest blessings. The Catholic Social Teachings are not limited to religion classes or Mass, but are carefully integrated in to all of our academic programs.

Each student receives a complete and comprehensive education at St. Mary’s. Our high quality and coordinated curriculum includes religion, language arts, math, science, social studies, computer technology, music, and physical education/health. Student achievement test scores reflect the strong dedication of our faculty to provide the high quality education offered at St. Mary’s. As we strive to educate the entire person, we also offer elementary sports such as football, volleyball and basketball as well as extracurricular activities such as chess club, choir, and Math Minds/Masters.

I invite you to come and observe all St. Mary’s has to offer!

Sincerely,

Mary Gangelhoff
