Physical Education/Health 

Students must take 2 credits of Physical Education/Health to graduate.

 

Physical Education 9                                                                                            

.5 Credit-Required
Grade 9                                                                      

Physical Education is a major part of the school's curriculum in contribution to the student's total development:  emotional, social, moral, as well as physical maturity.  The curriculum is set up to develop the entire body.  Physical fitness tests are used to determine how "fit" the young men and women are compared to the national norms. The course includes the following sports:  tennis, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, badminton, softball, floor hockey, weight training, archery, track and field and physical fitness tests. Physical Education is offered for five weeks opposite of health.

 

Health 9

Grade 9                                                                      

Health will meet every four weeks opposite of Physical Education. In this course the student is given practical health essentials; proper attitudes toward hygiene and general good health are stressed. Areas covered include wellness, decision-making, nutrition, cardiovascular system, and career investigation. 

 

Fitness                                                                                                            

.5 or 1 Credit-Elective
Grades 11, 12

This class is for students looking to enhance their overall level of fitness along with athletes hoping to improve their athletic performance. Students will be exposed to a wide variety of training methods in the areas of strength, flexibility, agility, and endurance. Classes will be conducted in the weight room and gymnasium.

 

Physical Education 10

Grades 10, 11, 12

Physical Education 10 will build on the concepts and skills developed in 9th grade contributing to the student's total development:  emotional, social, moral, as well as physical maturity.  Students will take fitness tests comparing their level to national norms. The course includes the following sports:  tennis, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, bowling, badminton, softball, weight training, speedball, and physical fitness tests. Physical Education is offered for five weeks of each quarter.

 

Health 10

Grades 10, 11, 12

Health will meet every four weeks opposite of Physical Education. In this course the student is given practical health essentials; proper attitudes toward hygiene and general good health are stressed. Areas covered include first aid, stress, substance abuse, sex education, death and dying.

 

Lifetime Sports                                                                                            

.5 or 1 Credit-Elective
Grades 11, 12                                                             

This class enables students to undertake a higher level of sports and physical activity leading to a healthy lifestyle and give them a wide variety of lifetime sports.

The course includes the following sports:  tennis, horseshoes, golf, weight training, bowling, trap shooting, croquet, badminton, team handball, volleyball, basketball, ice skating, whiffle ball, softball, football, archery and others.
