As a parish priest for 27 years before being ordained a bishop, I have always been associated with a Catholic school. I have experienced the value of a Catholic education first hand. The Catholic school is a treasure because it is an effective and integral part of the ministry of the parish to its young people. It is a tested means for handing on the Catholic faith to those who are the future of the Catholic Church.
St. Mary's Catholic School program provides Catholic education to students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade. I have celebrated Mass for the students at St. Mary’s and I have visited with them and with the priests, faculty, staff, volunteers, and administration of St. Mary’s School. I have seen the good work that the school does in forming the students in the Catholic faith, while at the same time providing an academically sound education.
The students at St. Mary’s are being formed to live their faith within the family, within their church communities, within the workplace, and within society at large. In this way, they will help to transform our culture and to bring about a civilization of life and love. What a vital service St. Mary’s is providing to the Catholic community! It is well worth the sacrifices that are necessary to keep St. Mary’s Catholic School the treasure that it is.~Bishop John M. LeVoir
